Our Optometrists
Dr. Karine A. Briand
Dr. Briand completed her academic journey with distinction, earning a Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Optometry from the University of Waterloo in 2010. Following her graduation, she became a part of Family Eye Care and subsequently took ownership of the practice in January 2016. Dr. Briand has a special interest in children’s eye health and pediatric eye examinations, though she extends her services to individuals of all ages, offering care in both French and English. Furthermore, she has acquired more in-depth knowledge in addressing dry eye disease and has introduced specialized equipment for its in-office treatment.
Beyond her practice management responsibilities, Dr. Briand serves as a board member for Centre Communautaire de Sante Timmins since 2020, assuming the role of board chair in 2022. She is also an active board member of OSI (Optometric Services Inc) since 2021. From 2012 to 2016, Dr. Briand was deeply involved in the local community as the President of the United Way Cochrane-Temiskaming. In her personal life, she finds joy in spending quality time with her husband and three children. Additionally, she engages in beekeeping as a hobby and contributes to farm-related activities.
Dr. Valérie L. Boileau
Dr. Boileau graduated with a Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Montreal in 2016. Having completed a placement in a reference ocular pathology centre, she is up to date with many new technologies and treatments in the eye care profession. Dr. Boileau is a caring and attentive person who enjoys working with the public. Her caring approach allows her to work well with children as well as patients of all ages. She provides services both in French and English allowing for better communication and a comfortable atmosphere for all her patients. In her spare time, she enjoys jogging, reading, baking, and many outdoor activities. Born and raised in Timmins, she is happy to be providing eye care services to the residents of her hometown and surrounding areas.
Dr. Carmen Tse
Dr. Tse graduated with a Bachelors in Science (Honors) from the University of Toronto in 2010. She went on to complete her Bachelors of Science of Optometry (Honors) in Hong Kong and graduated in 2015. She worked in Hong Kong where she gained valuable experience diagnosing and managing patients with various ocular conditions such as cataracts, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma and macular degeneration. In 2020, Dr. Tse became a fully licensed optometrist from University of Waterloo, School of Optometry. She looks forward to working to the full scope of what optometry has to offer all while enjoying the beauty of Northern Ontario.
Dr. Tse has a special interest in utilizing spectacles and specialty contact lenses to help control the progression of myopia (near-sightedness). She also has a special interest in the treatment of Dry Eye Disease which is an ocular condition that has increased due to prolonged use of computers or other digital devices.
Dr. Guindon
Dr. Guindon completed his Bachelor of Science (Honors) and Doctor of Optometry degrees at the University of Waterloo in 1998. In 2000, he returned to his hometown of Hearst and became part of his father’s optometry practices in Hearst and Longlac. By 2010, he had acquired both practices and continued providing patient care in both French and English.
With a deep appreciation for the arts, Dr. Guindon served as the President of the Conseil des Arts de Hearst for a five-year period. He maintains his passion for concerts and various art exhibitions. During his leisure time, he engages in woodworking projects, cooking, and playing the saxophone and piano. Dr. Guindon looks forward to resuming cross-country skiing and golf activities with family and friends.
In order to be closer to his wife’s family, Dr. Guindon is relocating to Timmins. He joined Family Eye care a practice to be able to extend the same high-quality care he provided in Hearst and the surrounding areas.
Christine Jin (June to December)
Christine Jin is a new graduate from the University of Waterloo with a Doctorate of Optometry. She has completed a disease rotation in Miami, Florida, where she has deepened her understanding of diseases such as Age Related Macular Degeneration, Diabetic Retinopathy, Glaucoma, Cataract management, and other common ocular diseases.
In addition to Optometry, Christine has attained a diploma in Opticianry at Seneca Collage prior to persuing optometry. She has over 7 years of experience in fitting glasses and contact lenses and is very knowledgeable in lens designs. She has a passion for dry eye management and myopia control.
Christine is involved in her local community of GTA. Some of her volunteering experience includes annual volunteering at the Opening Eyes program as part of the Special Olympics which aims to provide vision care for athletes with intellectual disabilities. She has volunteered at local shelters to provide eye exams and glasses for those in need. She was also involved in a mission trip to Malawi, Africa organized by VOSH to provide eye care to children in third world countries.

Kim - Front Desk Executive
In August 2012, Kim joined the Family Eye Care Team, contributing her extensive 25 years of customer service expertise. Upon entering our office, you’ll be greeted by her cheerfulness and friendly smile. In her leisure time, Kim adores spending quality moments with her two lovely granddaughters.

Judy - Telephone Executive
In August 2014, Judy joined the Family Eye Care team, bringing with her valuable experience from the customer service sector. When calling our office, you will be greeted with her warmth and friendliness. She enjoys summer days on the pontoon with her husband and dogs, and winter days painting or planning a trip somewhere warm!

Julie - Optometric Assistant
In March 2016, Julie joined the Family Eye Care team. With a background in the beauty industry, she possesses a keen eye for selecting the perfect frames that complement your style. Julie is also your go-to resource for addressing any of your dry eye concerns. She’s a significant asset to our Family Eye Care team, combining a strong work ethic with a positive attitude that makes working with her an absolute delight day in and day out. During her free time, Julie takes pleasure in spending quality moments with her family.

Kayla - Optometric Assistant
In November 2017, Kayla joined the Family Eye Care team. She graduated from the Canadian Certified Optometrist Assistant program in 2019. Her passion for science and desire to help people makes her a great asset in assisting our optometrist, while preparing the patients for their appointment. Kayla is responsible for conducting patient pretesting and other additional Testing before your meet with the Optometrist. With her unique sense of humor and infectious laughter, she’s sure to bring some brightness to your day.

Krista - Optometric Assistant
In March 2017, Krista joined the Family Eye Caer team. Krista’s bubbly personality and hard work ethic allow her to be an extremely versatile team member. With over 22 years of customer service experience, and 10 of them being in the beauty industry, Krista is the perfect fit for our team. In her spare time, she enjoys swimming, listening to music, testing out new recipes, and even speaking Italian! In June 2018 Krista completed the Canadian Certified Optometric Assistant program and is also a certified Ocular Hygienist who can help with any dry eye treatments or questions you may have.

Lisa - Optometric Assistant
In September 2018, Lisa became a member of the Family Eye Care team and promptly acquired her Canadian Optometric Assistant Certification. Presently, she works in the edging lab, where she is responsible for crafting your eyeglasses. During her leisure hours, Lisa enjoys spending quality time with her family and friends, engaging in fitness activities, and the outdoors. She takes great pride in being the dedicated mother of three kids who keep her quite occupied.

Rachel - Office Administrator
In November 2019, Rachel joined the Family Eye Care team, bringing with her over 20 years of valuable experience from the food and retail sectors. In her leisure time, she delights in spending quality moments with her grandkids and her adorable schnoodle.

Dave - Licensed Optician
In November 2020, Dave joined the Family Eye Care team. He proudly earned his optician diploma with honors from Georgian College in 1997, marking the beginning of his impressive 23-year career as a licensed optician. Throughout his extensive experience, he has honed his skills in assisting patients in selecting the perfect pair of glasses. His meticulous attention to detail ensures that your eyewear not only looks fantastic but also provides optimal comfort and vision. Dave takes great pleasure in serving clients in the same way he would want to be served. He extends a warm invitation to all his previous clients to visit him for their eyewear requirements.

Shannon - Optometric Assistant
In June 2023, Shannon joined the Family Eye Care team. Shannon is a mother to an amazing daughter and a wonderful step son. Her significant partner and the kids enjoy spending their day out in the bush and camping and riding their side by side. With a wealth of customer service experience, Shannon is passionate about assisting others. You can often find her performing pre-tests at our office, and she is enthusiastic about expanding her knowledge in our industry.

Lauren - Optometric Assistant
In June 2023, Lauren joined the Family Eye Care team. Her background in Practical Nursing serves as a valuable asset in her roles as an ocular hygienist and optometric assistant. Lauren is a certified ocular hygienist, and she is currently enrollmed in the Canadian Certified Optometric Assistant program to enhance her knowledge and skills further. During her free time, she finds pleasure in activities like drawing, listening to music, and exploring new places through travel.
